Description

An inservice day workshop for middle and high school computer science teachers.

Hosted by:

  • Paul G Allen School for Computer Science and Engineering https://cs.washington.edu
  • Puget Sound Computer Science Teachers’ Association http://pscsta.org

Teachers in the state of Washington all get the second Friday of the month as a teacher inservice day. Often Computer Science teachers are often the only person in a school or district, so finding content specific professional development (PD) or Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) at the school can be a challenge.

HCDE, CSE, and PSCTA are joining forces to provide CS specific professional development for the October inservice day. This workshop is designed to instruct teachers on how to build an end to end project experience that incorporates User Centered Design skills. Teachers will learn how to design and implement an app of their own choosing through a series of exercises and activities that include brainstorming, rapid prototyping, testing and critiquing. The information given will include a blueprint for a 3 week project (good for a post AP time frame), although this would be applicable for any level of CS - even in the middle school arena. Teachers will also be given time at the end of the day to think and discuss how they plan to implement what they’ve learned in their curriculum in the future.

Continental breakfast and lunch will be served. Six clock hours will be sponsored by the PSCSTA for those who request them.

Registration is limited, so RSVP early and please plan on attending if you do RSVP.
